Pope Benedict XVI has declared a “Year for Priests” beginning with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009. The year will conclude in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father on June 19, 2010.

With the annoucement of the this Year for Priests, the Pope has declared St. John Vianney the Universal Patron of Priests on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of the Curé d’Ars.

Please pray for our priests that they might always be faithful to their sacred calling.

 

 

 

YEAR OF ST. PAUL

As we conclude the year of St. Paul which the Holy Father inaugurated on June 29, 2008, we invite the Filipino faithful to start preparing spiritually for another crucial transition in the life of our nation—namely, the elections in May 2010. For this purpose, we are declaring the post-Pauline year (from June 2009 until June 2010) as a year of Prayer and Work for Peace-building and Lay Participation in Social Change. By way of transition, we can draw our inspiration from St. Paul’s timeless reflections on “Christ as Ambassador of Peace and Reconciliation” (2 Cor 5: 18-20 & Eph 2:12-18) in order to dispose ourselves for the next thematic year.

We will launch this new thematic year by consecrating our country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary when we celebrate their feast days on June 19-20, 2009—a few days before the formal closing of the Pauline Year on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, June 29, 2009. This Year of Prayer and Work for Peace-Building and Lay Participation in Social Change will begin and end.with the feasts of the Two Hearts (June 2009- June 2010).

Bandilyo Eskwela -  reaching out…touching lives

Knowledge is long lasting. Essentially, education is still is the most treasured wealth that a man can ever have. These are the same tenets that DYWC Radyo Bandilyo believed in.  The same principles were also applied during the conceptualization phase of “Bandilyo Eskwela”.

The said program was launched initially to help those children entering Grade 1 in destitute areas, to inspire them to go to school and be able to help instill in them the value of education by providing them the basic school supplies.

Since this is the very first time that the station embarked on this kind of community outreach, we conducted our simple research to find out who among the schools in the nearby municipalities whose students need our utmost attention. After a careful evaluation, we thought of reaching out to “Panusuan and Cantalina Elementary Schools” in barangay Silab, Municipality of Amlan.

But as it has always been in our case, God’s mercy can never be contained. Notwithstanding the very short period of plugging the program on the air, donations kept pouring in through the generosity and benevolence of the listeners of DYWC. We thought it wise then to expand our mission by including the sharing of the school supplies to all the grade levels in both schools.

To make it more meaningful “Bandilyo Eskwela” was launched on June 1, 2009 during the first day of classes for the school year. A short program was held and inspiring messages were also shared by the school heads, Dr. Ernesto Paculanang, the District Supervisor of Amlan, Mr. Aldrin Yaeso, the Supervising Principal of the Multi-grade school, Mayor Bentham dela Cruz of Amlan and of course our very own station manager Fr. Ram Maata as the parents, students and school staff listened attentively.

It was so overwhelming to see all the kids and parents received the packs of school supplies with gratitude and a genuine smile. We can truly be certain that with our listeners around, guided by the Holy Spirit, we will be able to have a second round of “Bandilyo Eskwela” in the next school year.

To all our benefactors and donors, our sincerest gratitude goes to all of you. Because of your generosity, God will reward you a hundredfold.
